FAQ

Is Virtual Sound Stage really free?

Yes, the latest version of Virtual Sound Stage is a free legacy version of the original commercial plug-in. It comes without any restrictions or limitations.

I hope this update will make it easier for anyone who has purchased the original version in the past to keep on using the plug-in - without having to worry about lost keyfiles or compatibility issues.

I also hope that despite its age Virtual Sound Stage will be a worthwhile addition to the many free plug-ins available nowadays and will help some people who are starting out with creating their own music.

What are the differences to the original version?

The free legacy version is a rebuild of the original plug-in that offers better compatibility with modern operating systems and plug-in formats. It adds support for VST3 on both Mac and Windows as well as binaries that are compatibile with ARM-based Apple Silicon CPUs.

Can I use it in my commercial projects?

Yes! You can use Virtual Sound Stage in both commercial and non-commercial projects without any restrictions.

Where can I find the documentation?

The online documentation is available here.

Is there any support available?

With my day job taking up most of my time and energy, it's unfortunately impossible for me to keep up with support requests. I apologize and hope for your understanding. While I can't offer individual support, I'll do my best to fix any major issues and keep the codebase up to date, so the plug-in will stay usable in the future.

Can I still buy the original version?

No, the original commercial version of Virtual Sound Stage is no longer available for purchase. The free legacy version is the only version available now.

What about new features?

No promises. It was quite challenging to find the time to rebuild and update the original version and I want to focus on some other project for a while. If you are interested in new developments in acoustic simulation I highly recommend checking out the fantastic work Ryan McGuire is doing with Room360.
